Greetings, so I wanted to write about one of my favorite films. I
wouldn't really consider this a 'movie review' It's more like just the gist of the
movie, but enjoy (no spoilers really)...
Christiane F. (Wir Kinder Vom Bahnhof Zoo) is a German movie
based on the book of the same name which is based on the real life story of
Christiane (through the ages of 12-14). Christiane is a teenager in Berlin, Germany during the 70’s who falls
into a spiral of drug addiction and ultimately prostitution. The film also
depicts other teenagers and cohorts of Christiane F. who congregate in what is
known as Zoo Station which is also where most of the drug use and prostitution
occurs. The protagonist of the film is Christiane (played by Natja Brunkhorst)
and the central theme is her life as a teenage heroin addict but one of the
main focuses becomes Christiane’s relationship with Detlef (played by Thomas
Haustein) and their mutual drug addiction. What compels me about this movie is
that the characters, locations, and events in this film are based on reality. For example, the Bahnhof zoo station is still around today as well as the real
Christiane herself. Even if it wasn’t however, this movie would still be a
favorite because the plot is intriguing and compelling. The imagery is gritty,
realistic, and at times beautiful.. not to mention the soundtrack is amazing
(recommended to Bowie fans) there's even a great Bowie concert scene in there.
This looks like an interesting movie! I'll have to check it out sometime :)
